Millennial entrepreneurs looking for a place to found their start-up might want to consider looking over the pond, according to research from Nestpick.
The researchers investigated the business ecosystem in various cities around the world to discover where a start-up would fit in well. Out of the top 20 global cities, 10 are based in the US (San Francisco, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, Austin, Denver, Boston, and Philadelphia) and one is based in Canada (Vancouver).
London does feature on the list, in 8th place – helped in part by its top ranking for Universities. It also scored well in the start-up ecosystem category.
Although not making the top 20, other European cities scored highly in some of the assessment factors. Madrid, for example, ranks highest for LGBT Friendliness. Norway (as a whole) scored particularly well in the gender equality category, while Paris was noted for its universities, nightlife, and transport.
“Millennials grew up in a shrinking world, where the internet opened doors their parents never could have dreamed of, and budget airlines made those avenues real possibilities,” says Ömer Kücükdere, Managing Director of Nestpick. “It’s now possible to live and work anywhere in the world, and these opportunities are shaping how our planet will look to future generations.
“We must learn to adapt to the needs of younger people in order to have a thriving economy, and we believe that this ranking offers valuable insights to those cities looking for regeneration from a younger demographic.”
